Weather during the National Scout Jamboree is usually HOT and HUMID! A Central Virginia day during the Jamboree can be over 100 degrees Fahrenheit and 100% humidity. During the past six National Scout Jamborees there has been a hurricane, Hurricane Bob in 1985, and scouts were struck by lightning in 2001. Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Monitor weather forecasts at this site before traveling to the Jamboree and come prepared for hot, humid and severe weather. Jamboree weather tips: 1. Get in shape. Activities at the Jamboree are strenuous. It is a long long way from the parking lot to just about every activity. 2. Plan on walking to the activities. There are buses but they are usually packed. 3. Bring rain gear. 4. Drink plenty of water. This advice is from personal experience of not drinking enough water and ending up in a Jamboree medical tent. Don't bring or buy sodas. Water!!! 5. Know how to respond to weather emergencies such as thunderstorms, hail, tornados, extreme heat, and hurricanes.
