IEEE emeritbadges.org Project IEEE Electronics Merit Badge
Booth at
the 2005
National Scout Jamboree Merit Badge Midway Walter L. Elden, Volunteer Coordinator Volunteers Questions and AnswersUpdate #2 December 14, 200418. "Must" the Volunteers be BSA's member? Since I'm not a scout, what would you suggest? The volunteers for the IEEE Electronics Merit Badge Booth are not required to be IEEE members or adult registered BSA member. 19. How can I get "Youth Protection Training for adult leaders" (as specified in part 6 of FAQs). Adult registered BSA members can take the Youth
Protection Training on their local Boy Scout Council web site. The Youth
Protection Training will also be offered at both of our pre-Jamboree training
programs on Saturday, 23 July 2005 and Sunday, 24 July 2005 to be held in Glen
Allen, VA at the Dominion Virginia Power office. Volunteers only need to
attend one of these training programs. We will also offer the Youth
Protection Training at the IEEE Electronics Merit Badge Booth at the Jamboree.
All adults must complete the training before working with any scouts. 20. I’m aware that volunteers are responsible for their own lodging; however, is there any expense that will be covered by IEEE - Merit Badges? Part-time volunteers are responsible for all of their expenses for attending the Jamboree. I do know of two volunteers that are receiving funding from their local IEEE Section. If you need funding assistance, ask your local Section, Chapter or Branch. They might be willing to help. 21. Based on his skills and knowledge he is certified as a merit badge counselor for all of the e-merit badges BSA has to offer. He, however, is not a member of IEEE. He would like to help teach at the Jamboree in the IEEE booth when I am volunteering for IEEE. Will he be able to teach in the IEEE booth based on my affiliation with IEEE, or are the E-Merit badge instructors limited to current IEEE members? If participation is restricted to IEEE members only, would he be qualified to become a member of IEEE? These are very important questions and the answers should be
#1 on our list. The volunteers for the IEEE Electronics Merit Badge Booth
are not required to be IEEE members or adult registered scouters.
The IEEE would be glad to have your husband as a member. You can get more
information at www.ieee.org. 22. Questions about a typical day at the Electronics Merit Badge Booth: (1). How many Scouts will be expected to be taught at one time? We are planning for 11 scouts per class. There will be four instructional classes, a career class and a testing class that will be running simultaneously every day. (2). How many classrooms will be provided to accomodate this number? There will be four instructional classes for class 1, class 2, class 3 and class 4. There will also be classes for careers and testing.(3). How many Full Time and Part Time Instructors will be required each day? We will have eight full-time instructors and twelve part-time instructors daily. (4). How many classes will be conducted at the same time and how long will a class last? Each instructional class lasts 55 minutes then the scout moves to the next class room. Depending on the time of day, there will be four instructional classes, a testing class and a careers class in operation. (5). How many class sessions will be handled each day? We plan on completing six complete groups of 11 scouts each day. (6). What duties and tasks will the Part Time Volunteers be expected to do? The part-time instructors will assist the instructors for each class. The part-time volunteers need to review the instructional material for each class and determine for which class they would like to volunteer. A small number of part-time volunteers may be needed for registration, careers, rework and testing but we are not recruiting for these positions at this time. (7). How will weekdays differ or be the same as weekend days? The booth will be in operation from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM
daily. On Sunday the booth may open later but volunteers should plan on
being at the booth at the normal time. Volunteers that have completed the
pre-Jamboree training should plan on being at the booth by 8:00 AM daily.
The Merit Badge Midway is several miles inside Fort A. P. Hill. Security
access to the base for volunteers is unknown at this time. Under normal
conditions without any slow down at the main gate, the volunteer should allow 30
minutes to travel to the parking lot and then walk to the Merit Badge Midway.
Volunteers that have not completed the pre-Jamboree training should arrive at
the booth by 7:00 AM daily. 23. Please
clarify the payment of Registration Fee? The BSA
charges a $595 registration fee for full-time volunteers that elect to live on
the Jamboree site from 23 July 2005 through 3 August 2005. The IEEE
emeritbadges.org Project needs 22 full-time volunteers at the Jamboree and we
will be paying this registration fee. Many of the full-time volunteers are
choosing to live in a hotel off the Jamboree site. For these full-time
volunteers, we will contribute $595 for their living expenses. The
majority of the full-time positions have been filled. There are six
remaining full-time positions still available. Four people are need as
Electronics Merit Badge Instructors and two people are needed for Public
Relations. For the part-time volunteers, we don't think there will be a
registration fee. The part-time volunteers would be responsible for their
travel and living expenses. In the past, the majority of the part-time
volunteers have lived within a 50 mile radius and did not have a significant
expense to attend. 24. Is the
booth going to coordinate class work with other meritbadges, such as electricy
and radio? We are only coordinating volunteers for the IEEE
Electronics Merit Badge Booth. The Electricity Merit Badge Booth is being
sponsored by
Ralph W.
