IEEE emeritbadges.org Program
The IEEE emeritbadges.org program has developed hands-on electricity and electronics instructional material based on the Boy Scouts' merit badge requirements. Instructional material for computer education is being developed. Any student, boy or girl can use the program to enhance technical literacy and learn more about viable engineering and other technical career options.  The IEEE emeritbadges.org program will be sponsoring the Electricity Merit Badge and the Electronics Merit Badge booth at the 2010 National Scout Jamboree.

  • The 2010 National Scout Jamboree will be held from Monday, 26 July 2010 through Wednesday, 4 August 2010 at Fort A. P. Hill, Virginia near Bowling Green in Caroline County

  • While driving on Fort A. P. Hill roads, be sure to obey all traffic rules.  There is one spot shortly after entering the base near a residential area where the speed limit takes a quick decrease.  You will be stopped and possibly arrested if you exceed the speed limit!

  • The Merit Badge Midway is in the East End of the Public Parking Area.  The Electronics Merit Badge Booth and the Electricity Merit Badge Booth are each in 20 ft. x 100 ft tents. and the Midway.  Look for the pink flamingos surrounding our tents.  All volunteers, full-time and part-time, should report to the Volunteer Coordinator each day at the Electronics Merit Badge Booth.

  • Booth operation hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily.

  • Part-time volunteers who have completed the Youth Protection Training and the booth training should plan on arriving at the Merit Badge Midway 1hour prior to the booth opening.  You should also allow about 30 plus minutes from the time you enter Fort A. P. Hill until you arrive at the Merit Badge Midway.

  • Completion of the BSA’s Youth Protection training for adult leaders is required of each Jamboree volunteer.  Each volunteer must provide proof of current certification upon arrival at the Merit Badge Midway

  • It will be hot and humid during the Jamboree.  Outside temperatures may exceed 100 degrees.  Our booths will be in large 20 ft x 100 ft tents and it will be even hotter in the tents. There could also be severe storms.  It is important that you drink plenty of water.  It is estimated that you may need to consume at least 1.5  - 2 gallons per day. Coffee, tea, juice and soft drinks do not satisfy this requirement.

  • A training session to be held at our booths at 1300 hrs. (1:00 PM EDST) on Sunday, 25 July 2010.  The training is expected to last four hours and is required for all full-time and part-time volunteers.  Please let us know if an exception needs to be made.

  • Special t-shirts will be provided to volunteers at the training session.  Registered Scouters may the remaining parts of their uniform along with the booth t-shirt.

  • Photo ID tags and lanyards will be provided to each volunteer.

  • Snack and Jamboree memorabilia can be purchased at any of the three Jamboree Trading Posts.

  • Alcohol, non-prescription drugs and firearms are not permitted at the Jamboree.  You should not smoke on occasions when, by doing so, it would subject the Boy Scouts of America to adverse criticism by the public.
