The IEEE emeritbadges.org Project is an expansion of an IEEE pre-college
education program that started in 1981 with the sponsorship of the Electronics
Merit Badge Booth at the 1981 National Scout Jamboree held at Fort A. P. Hill,
VA USA. Since 1981 the IEEE has sponsored either the Electricity or Electronics
Merit Badge Booths at the National Scout Jamborees held in 1981, 1985, 1989,
1993, 1997 and 2001.
The project now has a new mission to provide a "global
non-discriminatory pre-college education program for boys and girls. The IEEE
Regional Activities Board has provided financial support for this project. We
are actively working with the Girl Scouts of the USA and the Boy Scouts of
America. Our program is being promoted to global IEEE members. In the future we
will contact the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts and the World
Organization of the Scout Movement to further promote the global portion of our
mission.
The next project activity will be to sponsor the Electronics Merit Badge
Booth at the 2005 National Scout Jamboree. The Jamboree will be in Caroline
County, VA US from 25 July 2005 to 3 August 2005.
